Chair : Prof. Leonid Fridman
Dr. Arie Levant (formerly L. V. Levantovsky) received his M.S. degree in Differential Equations from the Moscow State University, USSR, in 1980, and his Ph.D. degree in Control Theory from the Institute for System Studies (ISI) of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Moscow) in 1987. From 1980 until 1989 he was with ISI (Moscow). In 1990-1992 he was with the Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical Depts. of the Ben-Gurion University (Beer-Sheva,Israel). From 1993 until 2001 he was a Senior Analyst at the Institute for Industrial Mathematics (Beer-Sheva, Israel). Since 2001 he is a Senior Lecturer at the Applied Mathematics Dept. of the Tel-Aviv University (Israel).His professional activities have been concentrated in nonlinear control theory, stability theory, singularity theory of differentiable mappings, image processing and numerous practical research projects in these and other fields. His current research interests are in high-order sliding-mode control and its applications, real-time robust exact differentiation and non-linear robust output-feedback control.

Dr. Leonid M. Fridman received his M.S in mathematics from Kuibyshev (Samara) State University, Russia, Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Institute of Control Science (Moscow) , and Dr. of Science degrees in Control Science from Moscow State University of Mathematics and Electronics in 1976,1988, and 1998, respectively. In 1976-1999, Dr. Fridman was with the Department of Mathematics at the Samara State Architecture and Civil Engineering Academy, Samara, Russia; in 2000-2002, he was with the Department of Postgraduate Study and Investigations at the Chihuahua Institute of Technology, Chihuahua, Mexico. In 2002, he joined the Department of Postgraduate Study and Investigations of Engineering Faculty at National of Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico. Dr. Fridman is Associate Editor of Conference Editorial Board of IEEE Control Systems Society, Member of TC on Variable Structure Systems and Sliding mode control of IEEE Control Systems Society. His research interests include variable structure systems, singular perturbations, and time-delay systems. Dr. Fridman published over 90 technical papers. Plenary Talk 3 : “Finite-time Sliding Mode Control in Continuous Time and Discrete-time”, Xinghuo Yu

Dr. Xinghuo Yu received BSc and MSc degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei China, in 1982 and 1984, and PhD degree from Southeast University, Nanjing China in 1988, respectively. He is now with RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology), Melbourne Australia, where he is the Foundation Director of RMIT's Platform Technologies Research Institute. Professor Yu's research interests include variable structure and nonlinear control, complex and intelligent systems and industrial applications. He has published over 400 refereed papers in technical journals, books and conference proceedings. Professor Yu is serving as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems Part I, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and several other scholarly journals. He received an award under the Thousand Talents Program of the Chinese Government in 2010, a Chang Jiang Scholar (Chair Professor) Award from the Ministry of Education of China in 2009, the 1995 Central Queensland University Vice Chancellor's Award for Research, and was made Emeritus Professor of Central Queensland University in 2002 for his long term contributions. Professor Yu is a Fellow of the IEEE, Vice-President (Planning and Development (2010/2011), Publications (2012)) of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) and an IEEE-IES Distinguished Lecturer. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and the Australian Computer Society. Professor Yu is currently chairing Technical Committee on Smart Grids of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society.
