The Systems and Control group at IIT Bombay is an unique interdisciplinary program in the country that offers post-graduate education (M. Tech and Ph. D) in the broad area of Systems and Control Engineering. The group has 6 core faculty members and about 12 associated faculty members from other academic units of the institute. The average doctoral strength is around 25 and the Master program intake every year is around 20.
The primary research focus of the core group is in the areas of –robust control, robotics, path-planning, embedded control, sliding mode control and applications, fractional-order modelling and control, and optimization. In addition, there are many other areas of research - process control, identification, behavioural theory, matrix computation, automotive control - that are being pursued by the associate faculty members. Many of the alumni of the group hold senior positions in the control and automation industry and research laboratories in the country.
