QuITO v.2: Review experience
A partial account of the review process of QuITO v.2
Let me quote some of their remarks here:
-
They objected to the title that reads “… nonlinear optimal control problems under path constraints”. In their opinion the title must be modified to include “… a class of nonlinear…” because
QuITO v.2
does not conform to the most general setting. By that logic,-
the title of the standard text Nonlinear Systems Analysis by M. Vidyasagar should be amended to “Nonlinear Continuous Systems Analysis” because continuity is indispensable throughout the book,
-
the title of the text Nonlinear Control Systems by A. Isidori should be amended to “Nonlinear Continuously Differentiable Control Systems” because continuous differentiability is indispensable throughout the book, etc.
-
-
“The uniform error bound is shown only for a restricted problem class that does not comprise discontinuous optimal controls.” They did not realize that uniform bounds are technically not feasible for discontinuous functions.
-
“It is well-known from approximation theory that sufficiently smooth functions can be more efficiently approximated by (piecewise) higher-order polynomials.” Once again, and deliberately (because the alternative is gross incompetence) they omitted the assumption of \(L_2\) approximation in their statement while applying that statement to
QuITO v.2
that focusses on uniform approximation.
